Is there a way to play back video at 1.5 or 2X speed?
« on: May 31, 2012, 10:24:29 pm »

Sometimes when I watch a video, I get bored midway through, and just want to FF to the end to find out what happens.  If I can do that at 1.5x or 2x speed, I can still listen to the audio (although somewhat high-pitched), and then slow it down to normal speed if something interesting pops up.

Normally I watch videos using the DLNA server features of MC17 streamed to my PS3.  I can hit a button on the PS3 controller and it will toggle through the various FF options, including 1.5x and 10x.  Is there any way to do this if I am watching directly on the computer using MC17?

Thanks,
DD.

I don't think so, but that would be cool.

It can do a fast-forward scan, but it is seeking (so it is jumpy, not smooth) and there is no audio.  In Final Cut and VLC, I can play stuff at all sorts of arbitrary speeds including faster-than and slower-than normal.  It is handy in all sorts of cases (1.25x and 1.5x speeds can be nice for video podcasts, and slow-mo-mode is nice if someone is talking too fast or you want to see something clearer in a crucial plot-point).

It doesn't work in VLC that well with all video types, but your average H.264 MKV or MP4, or XviD-compressed AVI, all work fine.

A not-so-convenient work around is to adjust the "Tempo" slider in DSP Studio > Tempo & Pitch while playing (only works if VideoClock is disabled).

On a related note, I'd like to be able to slow-mo video. No audio is necessary in this case however.

Does anyone now what the purpose of Player-->Preview Mode-->Play Warp Speed Preview is supposed to be.

When I saw this question I thought "hmm I don't know" and when I found the above it was a maybe moment
but all it did was cause MC to rifle through the playing now list at a completely useless IMHO rate.

I was expecting something along the lines of fast forward or similar not ~500ms of each song.

Oh, I've been known to pull up a video in VLC here and there for this feature specifically for the audio track.

That's why I said...

and slow-mo-mode is nice if someone is talking too fast

In fact, I just did it the other day watching an episode of Sherlock in the living room.  That show is fast paced and intelligent and sometimes if you miss a little line you can miss out on a whole part of the "unfolding".  And that guy is a brit and talks fast and is kind-of a mumbler.  Exquisitely in-character but that sometimes messes with us Americans listening to it on low volume as to not wake up the baby upstairs.

And, you know, I have a problem and I just can't miss that line.  I backed up and listened to it three times in MC, and still didn't quite get it.  So right-click, send to, VLC, play at 0.8x speed.   ;)

I am the same so I think every show/movie should have subtitles as I have used them for this purpose many many times.

Hah!  I've paused shows that don't have embedded subs (stuff I recorded myself or whatever), gone online, found an appropriate SUB file, got it all set up, and then resumed playback so I could figure out a single curious line.

My wife was not amused.

Do you pronounce the second syllable of color/colour and contour the same.
If no then who has the incorrect spelling, we pronounce them differently.
I ask out of curiosity firstly and to poke fun secondly. ;)

English is possibly the most difficult language to learn due to all of it's oddities, slang, and accents/emphasis.
we say a-lu-men-em you say al-ya-men-yem ;)
There are so many complexities to the language it is ridiculous for example pair, pear, and pare are all said the same with different meanings.
The chef pared a pair of pears or another is The student liked to read, so he read a red book. I could go on for days.
I am just thankful it is my native language.
