New HTPC
« on: June 23, 2012, 11:58:24 pm »

My HTPC is getting really old, it is time to replace it.  It needs to be able to beautifully render Media Center's highest quality theater view.  Any suggestions?  Ideally it should be fanless, which I have built previously.  I used to build tons of computers although I don't think that is a good plan.  Maybe a laptop?  Space is a concern for me.

Just get an i5 3550k i5-3570k Intel processor, a Motherboard with the Intel Z77 chipset, and HDMI or Display Port video output. No video card required. The minimum of heat load and plenty of CPU and graphics power to spare. I just built one myself with the Intel DZ77BH-55K mother board. Smaller boards work too I'm sure.

Doesn't i5 3550 come with HD 2500 GPU? Wouldn't you want to have at least HD 3000? Or, better yet HD 4000 in the about to be released Ivy Bridge i3 CPU?

Yes, you want the HD 4000 graphics. I am using the i5 3570K. I edited my typo below.
