When does MC alter the file 'Modified' attribute?
« on: July 06, 2012, 03:50:30 pm »

I was trying to do some music folder synchronization but it proved to be unexpectedly difficult and time-consuming: many files had been modified at a newer date - files I knew I didn't touch from the previous synchronization. Some questions:

1. In which instances does MC "touch" files so that their modified date is changed? Did some testing and to my surprise, when I added Cover Art (Cover Art-Add From File...) the audio file's date is modified. Why does that happen? "Also store image in file's tag" is disabled. Internet-lookup is disabled and Cover Art mode is set as "...folder.jpg". The date also changes with minimal file tagging, which is a bit more understandable.

2. Can any of the following alter the 'modified' date?

    a. Auto-Import (with analyze audio)
    b. Library folder-watching
    c. Playback
    d. Library searching/browsing
    e. Library tools: Move/Copy/Rename

In all cases MC changes the "Modified" attribute, an option to selectively instruct MC not to do so would be extremely handy.
