Workaround for non-admin account bug under W2K
« on: April 28, 2002, 05:53:57 pm »

Every version of MJ I've tried has an install bug under Windows 2000: If you don't have administrator permission, you get the following error dialog:

"(dialog box header) Windows Media File Format 7.1 Audio File Setup (message in box) INF Install failure. Reason: access is denied."

I just read a reply from ZRocker that said you have to reinstall MJ for each account. He says that subsequent installs just overwrite the version previously installed. That made me realize that the workaround is to install MJ under the Administrator account (or any other account with administrator permission), then reinstall under the target non-administrator account. The trick is that the second time you have to ignore the above error message. Works like a charm! Now I don't need administrator permission to run MJ under a non-administrator account.

Of course, one would hope the install bug will get fixed at some point.
