I am using JRiver Media Center 17 since April, and I still haven't figured out what seems to be a trivial issue :

whenever opening JRiver, it does not load any Cover Art for my Library, although files are correctly present in a dedicated, separate folder. When I select all my albums and use the "Cover Art > Quick find in File / Cover Art Directory" function, it correctly finds the Cover Art that is in my dedicated folder. However I have not found any way to have JRiver automatically fetch cover art from this folder at Startup

Here is my setup :

• Library is coming from a Synology NAS through DLNA
• The Synology NAS is running the latest DSM software
• I have deactivated in the Synology DLNA options (called Media Server) the ability to transmit cover art that is stored on the NAS as Folder.jpg and other file names. I want to use Cover Art that is local to JRiver, as it provides the best quality when in Theater mode (for some reason, when it comes from the NAS through DLNA, cover art is downscaled to a lower resolution and I have not seen any way to change this)

I have tried most (if not all) settings combinations in JRiver that are more or less related to Cover Art. Here is my current config:

• Options > File Location > Cover Art > Audio Mode : In a specified Folder
• Options > File Location > Cover Art > Folder : D:\Cover Art\
• Options > File Location > Cover Art > Also store image in the file's tag : disabled
• Options > General > Importing & Tagging > Update tags when file info changes : disabled
• Options > Library & Folders > Auto-import > Run auto-import in background : enabled
• Options > Library & Folders > Auto-import > Configure Auto-import > Folders : none (as I am using DLNA)
• Options > Media Network > Use Media Network to share this library and enable DLNA : enabled
• Options > Media Network > Add or Configure DLNA Servers > My Synology DLNA entry > Advanced > DLNA : enabled
• Options > Media Network > Add or Configure DLNA Servers > My Synology DLNA entry > Advanced > DLNAextra : enabled
• Options > Media Network > Add or Configure DLNA Servers > My Synology DLNA entry > Advanced > Enable Bitrate Field : enabled

Am I missing something ?
Is there any way to make Cover Art stick ? Or failing that, any way to force JRiver to refresh from the local Cover Art directory at Startup ?

Many thanks for any help you could provide, this is actually the first time I have been stuck in a computer-related issue

If you're just using the Synology as a drive, try turning off Media Network in MC.

Hi Jim,

doing this does solve the problem, however it does also disable my ability to use JRemote on my iPad to control JRiver, which is a featrue I use a lot.
I cannot imagine that having both the Cover Art + the ability to use a DLNA remote are two mutually exclusive options in JRiver.

You're right in that the Synology DLNA Server does appear to have a bug that only transmits low resolution images.

However, I can't quite understand why you're using an external DLNA library and also expect to use MC's internal library for storing images.  Would it do this?  I don't know.  Which library are you actually browsing via JRemote?  The external one or the internal one?  Surely you can't have a mixture of both, i.e. all metadata coming from Synology, except images which come from MC.

I hgave a Synology NAS which holds my media files that are indexed by MC, but it doesn't deliver them via DLNA, it's just a file store.  The files are imported into MC as though they were on its own disk, and MC finds the artwork as necessary.  You need to import the files into MC's own library in order for it do that.

I think this is what JimH was getting at.  You need to use the NAS as a file server only and not use its DLNA server.

Hi csimon, thanks for the feedback.

I am using JRiver in that specific configuration because I found out that DLNA was (interestingly) more reliable than standard CIFS sharing through my network. Sometimes, JRiver would crash on open when using network sharing, which is not the case with DLNA access.

If there is a limitation in how JRiver handles Cover Art through DLNA while being its own DLNA server at the same time (for remote control), then I will explore ways to solve the networking issues I have with standard network sharing.
