Streaming to Apple TV
« on: July 18, 2012, 06:05:05 pm »

It would be way neat to be able to stream from MC to Apple TV.

I love MC is and always will be the main media centre but recently weaken and went over to the dark side and bought an iPad .....nice device for what it is. Anyway for $100 bought an Apple TV and gotta say it just works, nice integration on Apple's side.

It would be really neat having the combo of MC and Apple TV...

Just a thought,

Cheers,

Ian

It it possible to stream audio to Apple TV?

With jremote you can use airplay to play to an Apple TV.
You can also use the airfoil app that acts as a virtual sound device  to plat to an Apple TV.

But that unfortunately requires that you're using your iDevice for control and playback.  In addition, the music is converted to MP3

Quote
Audio files are streamed in selectable quality ranging from 128kbbs to 320kbps mp3.

I would love to have support from MC to treat various AirPlay devices as separate zones.  Maybe this would be something that could be supported on the Mac version. (I'm very hopeful that the various sound devices are available in the Mac version as it appears that they may have made AirPlay devices act sort of as sound output devices in 10.8)

I'm happy to send the JRiver guys an AppleTV for them to play with, if it helps.

Im not sure what is required to get this running... but maybe atvflash might be an option, but need to check it out. last I recall it was only available for ATV1 maybe ATV2 also now...or even ATV3

Having airplay support would the business for MC thats for sure....probably a licensing issue with apple to use it tho.

Yeah, jailbroken, it can probably act as a DNLA device...

Or you could use http://www.rogueamoeba.com/airfoil/
