semicolons in artist field
« on: July 22, 2012, 12:31:58 pm »

I sometimes use semicolons in the Artist field (e.g., Nelson, Willie; & Friends)
In v.16 and prior, this was fine.
In v.17, anything before the semicolon, I'm guessing here, is taken as a "programming comment"
In the instance cited above, v.17 presents the Artist as:  "& Friends"
How do I get v.17 to stop thinking anything before a semicolon is a comment (if that is indeed was it is doing.)

Thank you.

[Artist] is now a list field, and the semicolon is the delimiter. You've recorded two Artists: 'Nelson, Willie' and '& Friends'.

In this case, I'm pretty sure the correct Artist is 'Willie Nelson', or it wouldn't be incorrect to refer to the few albums labelled that way as 'Willie Nelson' albums. 'Friends' could be recorded in a [Featuring] field (and, depending on their significance, their names listed). I can't think of any example where 'Artist & Friends' is an ongoing band and not just associated with one or a few albums (where the 'friends' may be different on each). This suggests a different approach: [Artist]='Willie Nelson' and [Album]='Willie Nelson & Friends: Old Friends'.
