Volume jumps with track change
« on: July 29, 2012, 08:04:11 pm »

Hi, this one has me baffled:
MC 17 on Windows 7-64
output is to USB to Antelope Zodiac used as a preamp.  Volume set on Zodiac to -12 db.
For wife acceptable listening, this means a max volume of about 45% on the system setting for the slider.  I set the max volume to 45%.

I can be listening to a track and when the track changes, I can hear the Zodiac re sync (click) to the sampling rate and then the volume (the loudness, not the setting on JRiver nor the Zodiac) goes through the roof (usually waking children and making me fear for my speakers).  If I click volume down one on my keyboard it goes back to just below the original level.  Any thoughts?  I can't lower my volume any further on the zodiac as I am using it for HT passthrough.

Thanks!

Could you try 'Internal Volume' in JRiver and see if it fixes the problem?

If so, it's likely a driver issue with the hardware and how it handles volume.

With a good system like that, I would recommend using _only_ JRiver internal volume (not system, hardware, etc. volumes).

Thanks Matt,
If I do that, is there a way to limit the system notifications?  If I plug in a usb stick or do something to create a system sound I don't want to fry things....
