Fadeout on pause not configurable

Since version 170 this is built in: NEW: Added fadeout on pause feature (configurable in Options > Audio)

However: although I've changed my setting to 'immediate' the pause button persists on fading out the music (fast).
Can this be fixed?

'Immediate' is perfectly immediate for me.  You might double-check the other parts of your audio stack.
