No rt.rr. channel MC17 only
« on: August 06, 2012, 02:33:39 pm »

I have no audio out of my right rear channel with MC17. I have all channels playing with anything connected to my pre-pro including other audio from my HTPC. But not from MC17.

Picking a consistent channel format in DSP Studio > Output Format might be a good place to start.

Working through this guide might also help:

Matt,
I went through all the settings in DSP Studio, especially channels to no avail. I checked that Wiki but those settings will affect sounds from other players on my computer and they don't have that channel problem. BTW the problem is there no matter what surround format I use. Have you dealt with this issue before?

Could you describe your setup (output mode, channels, etc.)?

This isn't a common problem and a lot of people (myself included) do 8 or more channel output.  So I think it's probably some configuration detail.

Matt,
The output mode is ASIO. Output mode settings lists my ASUS Xonar HDAV. The mode setting was zero. I changed it to two and then the R.R. channel started playing. But now the F.L. F.R. don't. So then I tried 2 but no change. I then tried every # up to 6 including zero and no more changes. F.L. and F.R. don't play R.R. does. Why do we even need this function?

I can't enjoy JRiver with no front left and right channels!

Do you have 6 or 8 speakers connected?

What happens if you use WASAPI - Event Style (Options > Audio)?

It's possible that your ASIO driver just isn't working.  I've had some troubles with CMedia ASIO drivers myself (in all programs, not just JRiver).  The alternate drivers have a better reputation:

Also, there's no standard channel ordering with ASIO (it varies by manufacturer), so you might need to use DSP Studio > Parametric Equalizer > Order channels to output in a format that matches your vendor's ASIO expectations.

I don't think you need the channel offset setting.

Matt,
Specifically what do you gather from my Output Mode Settings? In fact what do those numbers actually represent? Going from zero to two moved the problem from the rr to the fl and fr. Why? Changing those numbers after that made no more channel changes. Why? I'm leary of just trying things. I thought I had a rather common 5.1 setup.
I was hoping I didn't have to be a computer expert to enjoy this program. Now I'm not so sure.

If you don't want to deal with getting ASIO running, you might switch to DirectSound in Options > Audio.

It's the default setting, and should work well with any hardware.

I'm not ready to give up on ASIO yet. If this helps, in Gizmo on my tablet I'm getting 2 channel stereo of the same music that's not playing lf & rf in my 5.1 HT.

Then I think you need to experiment using my suggestions above.

Set channel offset back to 0.  Try a 'Order channels' filter in Parametric Equalizer.  Remember that RL and RR will by silent with 5.1 (only SL and SR are available in 5.1).
