JRM 17 and Cambridge Stream Magic 6
« on: August 16, 2012, 08:36:38 am »

I recently installed a Cambridge Audio Stream Magic 6 player at home and connected it via CAT5E to my network to access my UPnP NAS.  I am running JRM 17 to control everything.  When I play FLAC or WAV files (I don't use any other file types) via JRM17 the SM 6 display shows the files as 320kb MP3.  When I use the SM6 without JRM17 it displays the files as either 44.1khz/16 bit or 96khz/24bit (files downloaded from HDTracks).  Has anyone else run into this issue??

Have you got conversion turned on in the DLNA server settings?

I'll have to check that when I get home tonight?  What should the setting be?

Off!

MC will do transcoding of audio via DLNA if you tell it to.  It can convert to MP3 or LPCM (lossless).  If it's turned off, it will send the file through unchanged.  It sounds like you've got it set to convert to MP3.

You can also set it to convert only if the renderer doesn't support a given format.  Converting will also allow you to do volume levelling.

I'll take a look tonight and see what happens.

That was it.  I changed the settings to convert only unsupported and uncompressed, and that solved the problem.
