I installed a KWorld TV tuner USB stick. MC17 can record shows in .ts format. Ater the recording has completed, I tried to play back .ts files outside MC using VLC player or a HW streamer such as the Dune 3.0 Base. Some files can be played but some cannot. The MC can play all of them just fine.

Is this a known problem?

I really like the option to be able to record in the .ts format as it captures the CC data and preserves the original resolution (1080i or 720p).

Some of the recordings can be viewed with a standalone network streamer such as the Dune Base 3.0 or played with VLC or the Windows media player. Some of the recordings just show the blank page and nothing happened when played on those devices or programs.

If during the recording, one mistakenly tried to play it, the file will be "damaged" and will never be played outside MC.

Do you know what might be happening? I could supply a few samples that cannot be played but those are rather huge files.

Those problem recordings contain three video streams, one is a 1920x1080i MPEG-2 stream and other two 704x480i MPEG-2 streams, according to MediaInfo. The third one is not recognized by tsMuxeR GUI (v1.106) though. Sometimes, both 704x480i streams are not recognized by tsMuxeR.

If I use tsMuxeR GUI to remux the video with just the 1920x180i video stream to a new .ts file, the video can then be played by VLC, Windows Media Player and hardware streamers such as the Netgear eeoTV 550.

It looks like among those .ts recordings, the ones with the highest resolution upto 720p or 480i can be played.

The ones with the highest resolution upto 1080i cannot be played outside MC until remuxed to remove those 480i SD video streams.

I tested both "bad" recordings. It appears that they contain remnants of other streams that were removed. This may confuse other players. The first file, the longer one, can be played in ZoomPlayer, Media Player Classic, as well as in MC. The second file is more troublesome. VLC can, in fact, play these files, but just not straight forwardly. You have to tell it which stream to play. While VLC tries to open the file, right-click, and choose Playback > Program > select "1". For some reason, "3" is the program listed on the top of the list and is chosen by VLC by default.

When I have time, I will see if I can find a way of making the recordings cleaner.

Have you had time to make the recordings cleaner?

Will upgrading to MC18 make this problem go away?

It has been 10 months and JR MC version 18 will soon be replaced by version 19. This nagging problem still exists. Is it that hard to clean up the video streams so that it can be read by VLC and HandBrake?

The convertion to another format is one option but it takes a long time to convert a 2 hour recording. It would be nice to have the recording work the first place outside the JR MC.

Is it possible to have this fixed soon? I am willing to pay for the version 19 upgrade to get this but I need some kind of assurance from the JR MC developers. This problem has been dragging on for more than two releases.

I have been a good paying customer for JR MC for several version but will hold off the upgrade to v19 until this is resolved. JR MC already does everything I need audio wise. But JR MC v18 is not working completely for TV recording yet, IMHO.

I've got a KWorld UB499-2T DVB-T Tuner at home. If it's the same, I could do a comparison test if that would help.

From the dialogue, it sounds like Yaobing is on to it and probably won't need anything from me. If that's not the case, just set out a test protocol and I'll follow the steps.

I've got MC17 and receive 1080 transmissions over the air, so I should have the resources to conduct a test. Just let me know what you want to do ..

It may be pretty close to yours.

I have mine set to .ts which is supposed to be playable outside JR MC without conversion. But the recordings tend to have multiple video and audio streams which can always confuse normal video players (HW or SW), players such as VLC or conversion tools such as Handbrake.

One for others to comment but I would have thought that the ATSC and DVB formats are fundamentally different.

Just to rule out the basics, have you made sure you're working with the latest driver?

There is no need to load MC17. I am running MC 18.0.221.

My USB tuner is listed as UB435-Q V2.

It has been a year and two versions earlier since I started this thread. There is still no solution insight. I am wondering what is going on?

Is JR MC not putting much effort in the TV/video area? If this is the case, what does one gain to upgrade to MC 19?

Yaobing had been working on this resulting in a fix being released a few weeks ago. You may want to give it a go!

Thank you for the update. I will definitely try again tonight. Last time I tried not long time ago, MC18 was still producing same number video streams that confuse many players, hardware or software.

Is this fix in MC18 or only in MC19?

| Sigh. Never mind it's in 19. Now I have to deal with beta software again.

You may have a reason to upgrade! Anyway, you can run the a trial of MC19 side by side MC18.

This has been bugging me (just at "nagging thought" level).

I gave a .ts file a watch recorded via MC19.0.38 on VLC 2.0.8. Worked a treat. If there was a problem, I can't repeat it..

After upgrading to JR MC19, .ts recordings no longer contain multiple video streams and can be played outside JR MC perfectly. Thank you!
