Gizmo/JRemote Zones linking
« on: September 10, 2012, 04:24:19 am »

Could you inform if it will be possible to link/unlink zones using Gizmo/JRemote with this new version?

v18 will add Play Doctor and MP4 video playback to Gizmo.  It doesn't have zone linking yet, but I agree it'd be nice.

Thanks for replying Matt. I think JRiver would reach a new niche of market including Gizmo zone linking/unlink. Thats because it would be a complete solution for multi zone setups.

+1 to zone linking via MCWS HTTP API calls.

This would bring JRiver close to a Sonos experience via iPad/iPhone for multi-zone users.

Any comments about including this feature? Should we expect v18 with it included?

+1 would love this feature, would instantly upgrade from MC17.

I hope we see this feature in version 18!!
To JRiver staff: do you think it is feasible in V18?

+1

For now, I've got around this issue recently by getting one of these HDMI splitters from my media room,

http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=101&cp_id=10113&cs_id=1011306&p_id=8153&seq=1&format=2

Then going into a wall plate using this and a couple of Cat6 cables to the dining room:

http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=104&cp_id=10425&cs_id=1042501&p_id=8008&seq=1&format=2

The splitter goes from my nVidia card in my HTPC to two Onkyo receivers (NR5007 and NR1007). Using my iPad and JRemote I can control master volume affecting both rooms together, or using O-Remote to control my Onlyo receivers individually.
So now I don't have to link the zones. I also have RCA and optical cables going from one room to the other, so I can also use zones to play different music.

+1 for my brother who was complained at by wife for lack of airplay simplicity on gizmo.  She wants to be able to press play on Gizmo and then adhoc select which zones it is playing to as she moves around house.  Or be able to press pause while outside and then when inside simply toggle which zones are active and then press pause again.

+1 for this. Zone's are really powerful, but personally I think this is what most people want. I wish I could just play music, and toggle "destination" zones on and off. This is how iTunes works (yes, I know -- yuck -- but it does do this right, imo).

For me zones are the most important feature in JRiver and I think it is not very hard to implement API calls for JRemote or Gizmo to link zones using mobile devices.

I love JRemote, but it was developed by user lespaul, not the JRiver team. You may want to suggest this feature in the JRemote thread if you haven't done so so far.

Hello, I am sure if JRiver staff implement these features, Lespaul will implement too. But you will not necessarily have to use JRemote to use them, you will be able to use Gizmo or any external application.
