The Foundry Home Goods (new business in JRiver's building)
« on: September 14, 2012, 01:32:04 pm »

The Foundry Home Goods, a new business, opened downstairs in JRiver's building.

Here's a picture of the store from the outside:

And here's a picture of the entire JRiver building (before the new store):

There are more pictures of The Foundry Home Goods here:

The store occupies the lower level of JRiver's building.  The interior space is striking -- high ceilings, exposed beams, and all the other charm of an 1860's building.  The old foundry brick wall on the outside gets used daily for photo shoots.

It's been fun to watch Anna transform the space into her own (although not fun helping carry the heavy stuff).

Good luck to The Foundry Home Goods!

Is it just me...as everytime a see a pic of JR HQ (like above) I get an impression of a set from some B Grade Post Apocalyptic Urban Wastland flic....  In these pics, there are no people, cars, weeds growing in the pavement.  All that is missing is a Zombie or two!  I hope the the "Foundry Home Goods" is not relying on passing traffic to drive sales  :o

A recent visitor said it felt like the Deadwood (historic town, HBO show) in JRiver.  I'm not sure if he meant it as a compliment.

In my opinion the front part of the building, where The Foundry Home Goods is located, is one of the neatest around.

The back is a little rough.  It has a smokestack that tips another couple degrees each year.  Jim and I were out looking at it from across the street one day when a passer-by said to Jim (who has owned the building 30 years), "Buy that building and tear it down....  I hate that building."

Jim took it in stride and just said "We all die someday."

I still chuckle every time I think about it.

It is still the tallest building in Minneapolis.

The proprietor of the new business is my daughter, Anna.  I'm really proud of her.

Metal Castings, seems the wheel has almost turned full circle back to the days when JRiver was a Cast Iron wood stove producer!

Maybe Jim needs to go out there and spray some weed killer, or Zombie killer or both.

The funny thing is a long time ago there would have been plenty of zombies, now the area is a hip night spot ;)
