Will Not Back UP
« on: April 22, 2002, 01:23:00 pm »

I`ve spent hours trying to back up my set up .I get the message saying it has sucessfully backed up but when I restart it always reverts to the previous config.
I`ve just downloaded ver 7.2 .
I`ve tried uninstalling and re installing .
I`ve tried backing up to different folders in different locations.
Anybody HELP please, thanx.

Not sure I understand.  You don't need to back up MJ to run it again.  The database should be saved automatically.

In Control Panel/Add Remove Programs, is there more than one entry for MJ?

In MJ, what happens if you click on the |PLS| symbol next to Media Library?

Thanks for your interest.
If I import some new files, rename or delete any,add new artists or playlists or anything like that , when I next use MJ it`s all gone and reverted back to the set up is is now.
I created a folder in my Documents and called it Media Jukebox Back up. I Back up to this folder and it says"files backed up" (or something like that) but  they`re not.
I never had this problem with the previous version, are you any the wiser?!

Try this.  Get the good database (ie the one with your imported files and changes).  By "get" I mean re-do the imports and changes if they don't show up.

THen use MJ's backup feature, and select a directory.

Exit MJ and start it again.

If your files are still missing, then do the following.

Exit MJ.
Look under c:\program files\j river\mediajukebox\data and look for *.jmd files.  (I don't remember if they are in the data directory or another one under data).  When you find the directory that has the *.jmd files, make a copy of that directory (just in case things don't work out).  Now go to the directory where you make the backup.  Copy all of the *.jmd files and past them into the c:\program files\jriver\data\ directory (or the one that had the original jmd files in it).
Start MJ.

The version 8 .jmd files are now in a .zip archive.  This is what I noticed.  When I had 7.2.280, and went to backup,  all 5 .jmd files were listed seperately but now when you go to backup it prompts you to save a .zip file.

Ba$$man, when you say you "just downloaded ver 7.2", do you mean you went from v8 beta to 7.2?  As far as I understand it, v8 libraries (including backups) are not compatible with v7.  So if that's what you did, that could be your problem.
