Playback failed on MC 17.0.186
« on: September 22, 2012, 03:10:30 pm »

Shortly after upgrading to 17.0.186, got the following error message whenever I play a music file (mp3,flac,ape) from both PCs that have MC installed.  The music file is on a shared external drive on one of the PCs.

Playback failed
The media types of the selected files are not supported for playback. (<none>)

I have tried un-installing and re-installing, no effect.

Btw, I can play those files with Winamp, so it is nota file access problem.

Any ideas would be welcomed!

Sounds like the "media type" field is messed up somehow.  When viewing a list of your files in MC, right click on the header and checkmark the "Media Type" column. Does it show "Audio" for those files?
Just as a test, right click one of the files and select "Library Tools -> Update library from tags" and see if it will play afterwards.

You are correct, Update library from tags makes the file playable again....Thanks!

Now how do I do this change for the whole music collection?

You can select all files and do the same operation.

I realized I had to go to the Drives and Devices to get to the media files and then check the Show files in subfolders to get all the files regardless the directory structure.  It was then a matter of selecting all and update library from tags.

Everything seems to be working as it should.  Again, many thanks!

The mystery still remains though...how did this happen in the first place?  The upgrade to 17.0.186?
