Subject says it all.  I upgraded to v18 over the weekend and when I arrived at work today and upgraded MC 18 crashes every time I try and connect with my Library server at home. Both Machines are running Windows 7

Thanks in advance for any help/ advice

Which end crashes? The server, the client, or both?

What is the nature of the "crash"? Any Windows messages?

Its the client that crashes.  I put in my access key, the client sits and eventually windows says Media Center isn't responding and shuts it down.  MC 17 works on both ends.
Thanks

and you are absolutely certain that your MC18 client is connecting to an MC18 server?

If you keep MC17 installed, it's a good idea to go into its settings and turn of the "run media server at windows startup" setting if you haven't already done so.

After entering the access key, does the client retrieve the correct connection information from the J River servers?
If so, does it show a connection and begin retrieving the remote library?

Yes, I experienced this too when trying to get MC18 to load a 3rd party UPnP/DLNA Content Directory library (actually my own Whitebear). The MC18 client fails, and Windows reports that the application failed.

(I don't know if it makes a difference but the Content Directory has over 10'000 tracks).

I'll check the MC 17 server and report back.
As for the actual behavior of the client, it had been attempting a connection (accessing the IP address, etc.).  It would retry 4 times and then crash.  Most recently, the client won't even attempt to connect with the IP address.

OK, and could you just confirm that you are connecting directly to an MC server rather than a DNLA third party solution as reported by AndrewFG?

MC18 should connect to an MC18 server without any problems. We are using it trouble free for Theater View over internal LAN, and externally via Gizmo for Android.

I have zero experience with your described scenario. You would probably get better assistance if you start a new thread detailing your specific settings and problems.

Ran home and checked the server.  17 was ALSO running.  I shut 17 down and changed the startup on 17 to "Nothing".  Just fire up MC 18 here at work and all is well.  Thanks for the help.
On a related topic, is there a way that I can see which version the server is when I float over it in the taskbar?  When I right click it the only options are close media server and show media center.

Thanks again for your help JRiver is THE BEST

Great news. Thanks for letting us know.

Currently, there is no visual indicator as to what version of server is running from the tray icon.

And you're right, for $50 and 20Mb, Media Center is truly outstanding.

Actually, before I read this thread I had both 17 and 18 servers running. Two icons show in the system tray. I have set up 17 and 18 with different skins, and this was visible when right-clicking the system tray icons. Now I have disabled 17 server, of course.
