Media Center 17 Crash
« on: September 26, 2012, 11:04:15 pm »

I am currently evaluating media center 17 for purchase.  So far, it has crashed 5 times in the span of a few days.  Normally I would not continue evaluating software that is so unstable but the video and audio quality produced by JRiver is a lot better than the previous software packages I tested.  I would love to buy the software if I can resolve the crashing issue.  But, my wife and kids simply will not use the HTPC if it crashes every time they sit down to watch TV.

My HTPC is a Windows 7 machine with 8 GB RAM, an Intel Sandy Bridge Pentium dual core processor, and a Radeon HD 6570 video card.  The HTPC is a stable, dedicated media center PC which is directly connected to a surround sound system.  The only task assigned to the HTPC is to run media center software.  The last time JRiver crashed was when I woke the computer from sleep through an IR remote control.  A quick error message flashed on the screen - something like "Error drawing ...", then a windows error message popped up indicating the JRiver Media Center Software had stopped responding.  I did get the log files for this crash.  Please provide information on where to send the log files for analysis and any advice you have about fixing the issue.  The following is a snippet from the end of Previous Log.txt:

Please try the link called "Stability" on our wiki.

This suggests a network problem:

Can you please be more specific.  I have looked at the wiki and I didn't find anything that relates to my specific problem.  Also note that xbox Media Center was the first package I tried and I ran xbox media center for a month on the same computer and it did not crash once.  xbox Media Center also used the internet and my local intranet without any issues.  There is no network problem with Windows 7 or the network hardware.  During normal usage, I am not having any network connectivity issues with JRiver software either.
