  • LIFE IS A RADIO... CRANK IT UP TO 11!

hello i was told told to start a new post for my logs. it's 8mb... should i post all this info here? or send it to email?

the issue... in version 17 and version 18 search is taking around 2-3 minutes on each search. and if i click anywhere in jriver i get a runtime error.

version 18 is a brand new install, with a completelly new auto import. as it sits now it has updated thumbnails for 127,000 files of 780,000.

I've stopped the import process now, and will await reply.
thanks in advance

another thing to note. if i click on year tag on audio file, then jriver locks up for minutes as well on both versions.

If you have a crash log from the latest MC18, please send it to logs at jriver dot com.

Could you provide a library backup and details about exactly where you're searching that it's slow?  I can delete the library after we're done testing.

I've got the library backup.  Thanks.

What view or action is particularly slow?  Please be as specific as possible.

Typing "met" one letter at a time into the search box (waiting to type each letter until all updates finish) in the Audio\Artists view takes 1:20 on my computer.  That's much too long.

I'm investigating.

It looks like searching the month field is orders of magnitude too slow.  That same 1:20 turns to 5 seconds if I just remove the month search.

So I'll get this fixed.  Expect a huge speed improvement.

Thanks for your help.

So it looks like you have 14,000 files with dates way in the future (like 50,000 AD).  This is what's causing the performance issue.

Create this smartlist:
[Date]=>01/01/2015

Could you send a couple of the MP3 files where we're getting a date like that?  For example:
G:\Maps\Data\Music\Music 2\Y\Young The Giant - Young The Giant\Cough Syrup.mp3

Sorry for late reply Matt. business has been busy today

Ok i think i will reply to you here, but put all files in dropbox ( JRiver 18 Work-Diagnostic Folder)

The file you requested is in dropbox now, i also included 3 others with the same date.

Your smartlist you asked me to make i made, but comes up with 0 results, (screen in drop folder)

These 14,000 files where you noticed the date is off ( i cannot see these im only seeing 90?)

If i goto Audio then do a search for 5056 then a total of 90 files show up(screen in drop)

i made a smartlist named All files(audio, video, images) then did a search for 5056 - and that brought up the same results of 90

i then reloaded ALL audio files and sorted by date there are 1287 with a date of 0 (screen in drop)

Here's an odd scenario (maybe good test for you) Goto audio/All files/ then click on date so they sort with the 1 showing and an up arrow, then scroll down. SMOOTH as silk UNTIL you get to The LAST 5056 date where the date is blank. Notice that the remaining files under date with no info filled in ( 43547 files) if you scroll down it's very laggy. But i also noticed something, those 43547 files are duplicated? and are from G:\Maps, and Also network path name \\blabla. But if you look at my auto import screen (screen shot) i do not have it set to look in mapped path, only drive letter? could this be an issue as well? Maybe we cannot have drive letters, and paths in same library? maybe duplication issue?

Just so you know Matt... A fellow jriver user has been remoting in and helping me with this issue for the last couple months. and he suggested i should dive into 18 to see if i had a corrupt library on 17, so we installed 18, then cleared library, and made a new auto import list (as you've seen in screenshots) why do you think network path name shares are showing when we don't even have it set to import them for the time being?

I've went back to all files smartlist i made, and did a search for \\blabla and that brought up a total of 7358 files (screen in dropbox)

On a sidenote Matt (if you look at jriver 17 folders library you will notice all files SHOULD be from network path\\Blabla instead of drive letter, i set up 18 with drive letters ONLY in auto import for testing purposes only to see if maybe that was my lag problem. when i got 18 running smoothly, then i was planning on clearing library again, and changing all the auto imports to \\blabla\music\videos\pics etc..

Well, the file Cough Syrup.mp3 just has a date of "5056" in the ID3v1 and ID3v2 tag.  Weird.

There are a lot of files in your library with dates over 50,000 AD.  These dates don't display (we use the OS to do a short date format and it fails).  The smartlist I posted (you need to use Import/Export on the smartlist dialog) should show them.

With regards to performance, next build:
Fixed: Dates way in the future (like 50,000 AD) could cause performance problems.

so in short... if i can get this import/export figured out... then just select them all and for time being (being music isnt tagged yet precisely) change them all to 2012.
And i should be good?

Yes.

Or just wait for the new build, which fixes the performance problem.

quickie for ya Matt... will you be updating 17 as well? i'd like to test 17. then if that was my problem the whole time, then i will wipe out 18 completely, and then do a reinstall of 18... Allowing me to keep my library and all settings in tact. Unless you feel it would behoove me to start fresh with 18?
Thanks
