Crash when reading dvd rip

Hi,

I have a brand new external HD  Western Digital - My Book Essential 3.0 - USB 3.0 / USB 2.0 - 3 To, and I cannot read the DVD on it, MC freeze.
It is OK with VLC. It also OK on my WD Passeport.
BD are read but with bad quality, avi are read OK
Any idea?
