Tagging jazz personnel
« on: October 13, 2012, 10:21:04 pm »

I have a lot of jazz in my music collection, and I'm interested not just in who is the leader (album artist) of each album, but also others who play. For groups of 2-8 musicians, I've been listing the personnel in the comments field. (I give up for groups > 8.) This seems to work OK, as the field is searchable.

Have others hit on a better way to do this?

You could use the existing list field People, or add your own list field.  All fields can be made searchable, and stock fields are search by default.  The advantage of list fields is that you can display them as a single semicolon separated string, or uniquely in a pane or category view.  This allows you to see all tracks by some given performer.

Thanks, MrC!  Is there an easy way to get the contents of the Comments field (in my existing library) moved into the People field (either using MC or some other software)?

Can you provide a couple of samples of how you have the Comments field filled out?
