Topic: Recently imported files disappear (Read 2396 times)

I've imported a couple of files in my library yesterday. I backed the database up (from my house computer) and restored it today on my work computer. I copied the files I imported the day before to the appropriate directory and started playing these files.
All of a sudden however, the files disappeared from the library! They're still in the directory, but not in the database.

Must be an option which is on or off, but I can't figure out which one.
(I use MC 17)

Help would be appreciated!

Which version are you running? It sounds an aweful lot like an old issue that has been solved in recent versions of MC 17.

It was in the latest version of MC 17. I've upgraded to 18 yesterday and it seems alright now. I will import new files this week though (in the same way as described above). I'll come back if things go wrong again.

Boom! There it happend again! Now with version 18 I just installed.
Again: imported files on home p.c.; backed the database up; restored the database on work p.c.; copied the new files to the same directory; started playing the new files and after a while they disappear.
I even restored the settings of my home computer to my work p.c. (along with the database of course), but that didn't help...

I do hope you can give me some advice, because this way MC is less reliable.

Why are you backing up and restoring that library?

Why don't you configure auto-import and just copy the files to the new location for your work pc. Auto-import takes care of the rest.

I don't use auto-import because I don't want every song that I play to be imported.
And backing-up/restoring: this way my database at home and at the office are always synced.

I have a similar problem.

Whole groups of files disappear from the database.

Yesterday, my wife and 4year old daughter were watching a few Heidi episodes, all in the same directory of my Synology NAS, all in the same "Heidi" smartlist.

Suddenly the episode playing stopped, and all episodes were gone from the smartlist as well.

When I came home from work three hours later, the Auto-Import function had not re-imported the files in that directory.

Other smartlists on the same drive were there, files on some directories were missing while others appeared fine.

I had to manually run Auto Import and a few minutes later MC18 reported that some 1750 new files were imported.

This disappearance has occurred at least a dozen times....

With me the files disappear from the whole database - not just from a (smart)list. The files themselves stay in the directory on the computer though.

My bad... I meant to say that the files were missing from the library as well, not just the smartlist...

You might want to turn off "fix broken links" option. I am wondering if for some reason MC is thinking it is seeing a broken link and then deleting the library entry.

Are you copying the files AFTER you restored the library?

If so, copy the files first and then start MC and restore library.

Mmm... Interesting... Could be.
However: after restoring the library I can play the files for awhile. They disappear in the middle of one of these songs (and the music stops playing then of course).

Well if i do just that , when I delete or move files won't the library will keep showing them as active?

I was just suggesting that you try and turn off the "fix broken links" function temporarily to narrow the cause. On your bigger picture questions, as long as you delete or move withing MC, it won't be a problem. Otherwise the deleted files will show up in the library, but if I remember correctly, they will be identified as having broken links and you can then delete them (I am doing that from memory, so someone correct me).

Move, rename and delete with MC.

I don't find this always convenient....

After all, there was no such problem with MC17...

I don't think I should be searching for a workaround....

This issue should be addressed by the JRiver people....

I did a test which makes things quite clearer:
1) I restore my library at the office and copy the files to the right directory after that. Result: I can play the new files but after awhile they disappear
2) I copy the files to the right directory and restore the library after that. Result: everything goes well.

So number 2) sounds like a good workaround.

However: I should say that option number 1) shouldn't behave like it does.
Should I adjust an option in MC or is it a 'feature'?

It's turned on.
I will try the import thing again. Once with the fix-thing turned on and once with it turned off. See if it makes any difference.

Assuming everything equal, the audio is in the same path/filername, the only difference is probably the creation date of the file.
On the office PC all audio files have probably a more recent creation date.
Don’t know how MC deals with this (or use a file ID from the file system).

Beats me... I did a new test and now I can't reproduce the problem. No differences between the fix-thing on or off.
I have to import quite a few songs the coming weeks, so I'll get back to you when it happens again.
