Lots of Insanely Silly XML FILES!!! (Idea inside!)
« on: October 19, 2012, 07:54:27 pm »

So, I'm going through my file system and starting to organize and rename my media. I noticed a bunch of xml files placed in all of the folders by jriver. This seems so silly to me. I did some googling and searching on these forums and read that it is done to prevent file name conflicts.

The constant xml parsing, opening/closing all these xml files seems like wasted power and space to me. What do the devs think instead of having a sqlite database option?

Those are sidecar files, and they're (optionally) used for files that don't support tags.

The data is also stored in JRiver's library (which is fast), so it's only about data backup and portability.

Type 'sidecar' in the options searchbox if you want to configure the behavior.
