New drive for ripping, does anyone know this one?
« on: October 22, 2012, 07:34:46 am »

I am considering this one, because it is cheap and readily available where I live:

I have had some strange caching issues with a drive previously:

It seems difficult to find details about DAE features, but perhaps someone here knows this drive?

Thanks.  :)

Hm, I see now that the link I posted was to a DVD-ROM/CD-ROM version. The model I am considering is a burner, called Sony Optiarc DVD±RW Burner, DDU1681S-0B. Sorry about that.

As I said, I'm having a hard time finding information. The specs say something about SMART-X (Smart Monitoring & Adjusting Read-speed Technology for extraction), which might indicate something - but I don't know what! All I want is a drive that does not cache audio. Perhaps someone knows if Sony drives usually do cache audio?
