Should Kernel Streaming be louder than WASAPI [EventStyle] ?
« on: October 26, 2012, 01:47:45 pm »

Should Kernel Streaming be louder than WASAPI or WASAPI EventStyle ?

I notice if I switch between Kernel Streaming and either WASAPI using S/PDIF (without changing volume levels on the preamp), Kernel Streaming is louder.  Should this happen, or is it equipment related?

Thanks in advance.

What happens if you set JRiver to "internal volume"?

What happens if you set JRiver to "internal volume"?

I had it set to "Disabled Volume" so the preamp would do all of the work.

I will test other options tonight.

As both KS and WASAPI are supposed to be bit perfect they should be equally loud.
Check if system volume and application volume are really disabled.

On my laptop, using WASAPI with disabled volume in JRiver, I can still control system volume

Any specific menu options I should check?    I am using Win7-64 Ultimate/MC-18.

"Control Panel/Sound" has both Exclusive Mode options checked.
  • Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device
  • Give exclusive mode applications priority

Control panel has the right options checked.

When switching check is system and/or application volume changes.
In the audio panel check the SPDIF volume

Found it.  The Asus Xonar Essence STX had 2 similar device options, "Xonar Essence STX Audio" and "Xonar Essence STX Digital".

If "Audio" was selected, WASAPI bypassed the Asus Volume control, but Kernel Streaming does not.

If "Digital" was selected then both WASAPI and Kernel Streaming bypassed Asus's Volume control.

Thanks for the pointers.
