How to change drive letter "only" in JRiver?
« on: December 02, 2012, 07:24:57 pm »

Hopefully someone has a easy solution for this.  Is there a way to change the drive letter (only) within the filename/filepath in JRiver..(while keeping everything else the same)?  In the past, I had (2) 2TB external drives supporting all my data needs flowing into JRiver.  I recently purchased a 4TB drive and set up the files within it to look identical to what was on the (2) 2TB drives.  The older drives will now serve as backups of the 4TB.

Simple example: (2) 2TB drives (D: & E:) in JRiver currently videos (D:) and music (E:).  Now 4TB is (D:) which links all videos but how do I change the (E:) in JRiver's filepath/name only to a (D:) so it easily links the audio from the one drive and not have to redo 20,000 audio files?

Thank you in advance for the help! :)

Try this:
Pick files > right-click > Library Tools > Rename, Move & Copy Files

Put it in 'Update database to point to new location' mode.

Then use Find & Replace to switch E:\ to D:\.

You might do a few files before doing them all.

I know this is an old thread but I used this method and "most" of the files were relocated correctly except for:

I changed the drive letter using this method from W:\ to Z:\ and all 32,000+ files made it save ten or so that, instead of getting changed to Z:\ they were changed to \\?\Z:\

Any idea what happened to these files?  I can still play the files normally but was surprised that the filenames took such an unexpected jag to the left?

Thanks for your thoughts!

That is just a prefix used by windows to support paths over 260 characters long. It just means the total path+filename length exceeds this limit.
However, this should no longer be needed; make sure this option is enabled in MC: "support extra long filenames".

If you're still in MC17 it's likely the option doesn't exist yet, so you get that \\?\ prefix instead. Shorten your file/folder names.

Many thanks for the info.  I am using 32 at the present time so will set it up accordingly.

Update:  Oddly, the option to support "extra-long filenames" was already ticked.  I renamed the files and played with MP3TAG for a bit and now all is well.
