suggestion: be less aggressive when housecleaning backups
« on: December 05, 2012, 01:24:39 pm »

I've been meaning to mention this for a long time.

I make a lot of manual library backups and save them to the same directory that MC puts it's automatic backups.

Once a month (I think) MC does housecleaning and deletes excess backups. This makes sense for the daily backups that MC has made over the previous month, however I observe that MC also deleted backups I made a long time ago (which I want to keep) and even deletes backups that I have renamed and thus do not conform to MC default backups names.

This is not a big deal because I know how to work around it however I think it would be better if MC only deleted backups that conform to MC's auto naming convention and are not older than one month.

Hmm...I do not believe I am seeing this.

I should mention that I over-ride MC's default backup directory to my own - but I have months and months of "manual" backups still available. This is still on v17 however. Now that you have me thinking - it's probably time to see what's out there :)
