In MC18 dvd's don't play smooth anymore.
« on: December 07, 2012, 05:12:29 pm »

Yesterday I upgraded from MC17 to MC 18. All my settings were automatically imported. (I had/have Video mode on RO HQ, Hardware acceleration On and Video Clock ON)
Unfortunately dvd's don't playback smooth anymore. I see that not only in the picture, but also in the subtitles that are a bit stuttering. In MC17 everything played and still plays fine. And when I set File Type > DVD to use MC17 for playback it also plays fine.
Apparently it has to do with madVR that is now used for dvd's, but of course I am not sure. I also checked the madVR settings and made them the same as I had in MC17, but that didn't help.
What can I do to solve this ?

Try using Red October Std or try toggling hardware acceleration under video settings.

Thanks for your reply Jim.
Toggling hardware acceleration off solves it indeed.
But I don't understand why I have to do it. In MC17 everything worked fine on the same system (cpu, gpu etc). Playing blu-rays also goes fine with hardware acceleration on in MC17 and 18 as well.
And that would mean that every time I have to toggle it on for blu-ray's (for lesser cpu usage) and off for dvd playback ?

Update:

Meanwhile I think I have found what is causing my problem. It seems that it has to do with the deinterlacing settings in madVR under Processing > Deinterlacing.
Default settings are:
-Autmatically activate deinterlacing when needed : Enabled (=checked)
-If in doubt deactivate deinterlacing: Enabled (=checked)
-Disable automatic source type detection: Disabled (=unchecked)
With these my dvd's don't play smooth. However when I change them to:
- Automatically activate deinterlacing: Disabled (=unchecked)
OR
- Automatically activate deinterlacing: Enabled (=checked) AND
- Disable automatic source type detection: Enabled (=checked) + Force film
   mode (NOT video mode)
they play smooth again.
Now my question is: Are the default madVR settings for deinterlacing indeed the culprit and if so, which of both options above (that give smooth playback of dvd's) would you recommend for general purpose  (So that I don't have to change anything for all my media, like mkv's, dvd's and blu-ray's) ?
