Upgrading License?
« on: December 16, 2012, 03:40:03 am »

My laptop died and I mistakenly installed MC18 and of course found out later that my license is for an older version. I REALLY like your software and want to stay current... but can't quite remember the rules here... I thought  my license included/covered updates to new versions ... but now questioning this? So, my question is 1. do I need to uninstall the MC18 and reinstall with MC16 to activate my license - I'm assuming yes. and 2. To get the current version or keep my existing install - do I need to repurchase the license?
Thanks for providing this EXCELLENT software BTW - I really appreciate all the programming and options provided, GREAT JOB!

best regards, "K"

You just need to install the version that matches your license.  More here:

Thanks for the kind words.

Hi Jim. thanks for the quick response.
Ok, no problem - I can install MC16... but I really like MC18 on this new PC... I just don't understand the license and I have scoured your website and forum looking for the answer - but no luck. From above:

or does my license cover updating to the current version once installed?
I apologize if I didn't make it clear the first time round....

The license usually only covers the version you purchased it for, with one small exception - if you purchase a license shortly before a new version gets released, you get a free upgrade to the new version.
Considering you say you have a MC16 license, you will need to buy a upgrade to MC18.

This is true, with one minor quibble...

The license covers upgrades to any new minor versions (the daily/weekly builds).  They don't cover free upgrades to future major versions (with that one exception for if you buy the license just as the "switchover" is happening).

Generally, a new major version (MC16->17->18) comes out once a year.

It isn't free, but you can upgrade for a reduced cost:
