Playback of VC1 interlaced material - in JRiver (Red October HQ) is not fluid (in motion almost akin to ghosting, but more like a deinterlacing artifact - three images of the same thing in quick succession - difficult to describe). I have tried all combinations of upscaling algorithms and deinterlace settings and nothing changes the playback behaviour. I have tried with Hardware Acceleration off/on and similarily with deinterlacing settings in madVR.

Playback in Red October Standard is perfect and I can live with it - but I'm curious why I get unwatchable playback with ROHQ - my system should have sufficient grut I would have thought to provide perfect playback - and it does with a similar combination of madVR, LAV Filters and mpc-be, outside JRiver.

Any suggestions or assistance.

2) What Scaling Algorithms are you using in madVR.  If it is Jinc + the AR filter then this is very very punishing on many GPU with 50 ot 60i material.

Agreed it is very odd - the strange thing is how well it works externally, with all versions of Scaling (excepting Jinc which I haven't even tested)

1 - yes and also had it enabled in madVR (stopped using madVR and let JRiver do the switch on its own, but no change). Using either independently, the switching couldn't always be relied upon to return to default desktop setting having both enabled seem to cure this.
2 - steered clear of Jinc + AR (in fact don't utilise AR at all). All other combinations produce the same result

Worth a re-install (after backing up library of course  )

What do the madVR queues look like?

Also - try changing the Chroma and Image Upscaling to Mitchell-Netravali with the Anti Ringing Filter off

What should I be looking for with these stats.

Yes to Exclusive. I actually believed it was in exclusive mode, when I took the screenshot - though it does indicate 'windowed', would it come out of 'exclusive' to allow the screen print?

Thought that I had read that Fullscreen Overlay didn't work with ATI cards.

So the VSync Intercal is 16.68ms (eg 60 frames per second).  The sum of the timing in your queues indicate that you are right on or just over this limit with the current settings.  Changing to M-N is the least taxing of the lot so it will be interesting to see if that helps.

Blu-rays are always 1920x1080 if they are full HD, you cannot have such an odd resolution on one.
Furthermore, your mediainfo says its AVC/H.264, and not VC-1.

Will check out the disc for full details and re-rip - just lent the damned thing to a mate - will get it back and re-try. Could have sworn it was a VC1 encode - sorry about that chaps.

Still doesn't explain why it plays in other similar combos but not ROHQ - any ideas on that?

EDIT - just noticed Nev that media info is reporting 1920x1080. Tested with both mpc-hc and mpc-be and both report 1920x1080 using standalone madVR version 0.85.1 - why then would madVR/JRiver report differently. Sorry as before I can't provide screen shot evidence from fullscreen exclusive - you'll just have to take my word for it.

That was the setting causing all the trouble, I must have ticked it by mistake, when setting for DVD video. Why is it always the simplest of solutions

Just out of curiosity, you got any theories why it would pick this particular file to do that with - other HD material it totally ignores - realised why I had set 'crop' was to reduce edge artifacts on my DVD rips to mkv - which obviously don't come under tha banner of DVD Video.
