Hi all, noob here. I've weeded out most of the dupes from my disk, but there's still a lot of files with similar tags. Is there a way to tag some pairs as "not duplicates", so that they don't show up in my dupes smartlist?

You could add some special Keyword perhaps (No Duplicate), and then modify the Smartlist to exclude file that contain that keyword.  But this would be on a file-by-file basis, not a pair or grouping.

I don't think that's a working solution; excluding a file based on a keyword would cause it to be omitted from the smartlist, even if it's really a dupe of third file.

Actually, I use Calibre for my ebooks and it has a great feature for marking dupes; I was just wondering if MC had something similar that I couldn't find.

I agree - it isn't a good solution.

What is the query you're using for your Dups smartlist?

I've used plenty to weed out as many files as possible - variations of:

Media Type Audio / Only Dupes of / Album Artist Auto - Name - Album - Dur
Media Type Audio / Only Dupes of / Artist - Name - Album - Track#
Media Type Audio / Only Dupes of / Name - Dur - Bitrate

...etc.

The problem is I'm left with a number of dupes that show up mixed with legit -non dupes- files.

Ok, since you were a self-proclaimed noob, I just thought I'd ask.

Some more possibilities might be to consider including fields such as the analysis info: BPM, Replay Gain, Album Gain, Intensity, Peak Level.

Stacking of files might also be a possibility - I haven't tested out how this would work in practice.  You'd stack duplicates, and include only the Stack Top or non-stacked items in your smartlist.

The bottom line is that MC works on a file-by-file basis, so has no concept of the type of grouping you're asking for.  Hopefully any of these tips will help you find a workaround.

Thanks; I've no idea how Stacking works - I'll need to RTM and experiment...

If I may offer an idea, I think MC could really use some Fuzzy Search capability. As I've found out, a misspelt title or a typo in the artist's name causes dupes to appear as different songs; and though there are some ways to locate a few, many are slipping through the cracks.

Again, Calibre is a great source of ideas in this respect...
