Library has been imported with Chinese tags
« on: December 01, 2012, 05:53:50 pm »

Hi All,

I have just downloaded the trial of JRiver MC18 but have come across a problem...

I have been ripping my cd's to WAV on my computer, and all of the tags seem to be in order when i play though windows media player. However, when i import my music folder into JRiver, all of the files are tagged in what looks like Chinese.

Have i done something obviously wrong when installing the demo of JRiver or missed a setting?

Before i purchase my license, i would like to know if there is a fix, or if i need to take some IT lessons as learning Chinese is not high on my priority list right now.

I am a bit new to all this, so please be gentle with me! :-)

Thanks

How did you rip them?  Try ripping in MC.

Hi Jim,

Thanks for the fast reply.

I popped an already ripped CD into the computer, and JRiver reads all the tag data.

I am guessing i must have done something wrong at the ripping stage, or the tags did not carry over with the WAV files.

Can you point me in the right direction of creating a FLAC library using JRiver.

Quality is the most important thing for me in building my library.

Thanks again for your help.

When you start the rip, there are options you can set.  One of these is the encoding.  Choose FLAC.  You can also set this under Tools/Options/Encoding.  Choose CD Ripping first.

FLAC is a good choice.

I have this problem too. Trying out JRiver today, and all the albums in my library that were imported appear to have Chinese tags. Is there a way to remedy this without re-ripping all my wav albums in JRiver?

It may just be a display problem.  Are the files stored on a NAS drive?  How were they ripped?

More details about your PC might help.

They were ripped with EAC, straight to WAV. The files are stored on an external USB drive connected to my music server.

What OS?

Take a problem file and copy it to your local drive, then import it.  What do the tags look like then?

Hi Jim,

The files are all on my main hard disk, but i took a track moved its location, and reimported it, with the same results. I have so many wav's that seem to have tagged properly, only to be greeted with Chinese when viewed in MC18... weird.

I am using Windows 7 ultimate, service pack 1 64Bit.

Regards

Please use this thread now:

Any details you can provide would be appreciated.

It appears that it is a WAV only problem.

The source of the files may matter.

There was a 3TB drive problem reported that may be related.  That would probably not be an MC problem.
