Bug when converting 24bit ALAC to FLAC - MC 18.0.103
« on: December 24, 2012, 07:05:54 pm »

Hi,

I have bunch of 24bit M4A ALAC files. When I tried to convert them to FLAC, output FLAC files has only 16bit.

Thanks for the report.

We'll take a look next week when we're back in the office.

Hi Maciej,

Can you provide a sample ALAC file that exhibit this problem?

EDIT:
Never mind.  I found a 24 bit WAV file and tested with it.  I can reproduce the problem.  WAV -> ALAC -> FLAC created a 16 bit file.  WAV -> FLAC created a 24 bit file.

This is fixed.  I was not fast enough to make it in 18.0.104.  So you will see the fix in a later build.

Converting 24bit ALAC to FLAC works perfectly now. But i've observed one more thing. After convert M4A to FLAC, column "Compression" still have ALAC not FLAC, but File Type is flac.

Best regards,
Maciej

That is a bit strange.  Anybody else seeing this?  My flac audio files all have blank Compression field, whether they were converted from ALAC or not.

Ideally the compression field should always have something useful, so it would probably be worth adding to the FLAC plugin.

I can now reproduce the problem.  My conversion setting was such that it produced new file without deleting the old.  Once I set the the setting to "replace old file on disk and in library", "ALAC" shows up in the compression field.  I think our FLAC plugin may not provide a compression value.  I will look into this.

It is now fixed and will appear in the next build.
