videophile feature idea: compare 2 videos
« on: January 04, 2013, 04:44:40 pm »

A new feature idea that some of your videophile users might appreciate....

I frequently want to compare 2 rips of the same video. The best method I have found is to open each video in a separate VLC instance, then scroll one ahead to a scene with appropriate detail and color, pause it, then scroll the 2nd video to about the same point, then start both videos and fiddle with pause/play until they are both perfectly in sync, then switch both to full screen, then rapidly alt tab between windows until I lose track of which window is which rip, then slowly switch back and forth until I decide which is the better of the 2 videos, then exit full screen to unveil the winning rip.

This works well but is very tedious.

I suspect a "compare videos" feature could be built into MC to automate a lot of this. For example:
1) select 2 videos
2) right click compare videos
3) both videos start playing in side by side windows
4) scrolling ahead moves the position of both
5) select 1 window and press space bar to pause/unpause to bring both into perfect sync
6) press maximize window to switch both into 2 full screen windows
7) alt tab between windows until the winner is selected
