Intermittent crash in Windows 7
« on: December 29, 2012, 09:37:03 pm »

Not sure what to look at here, so am asking for advice.

I have MC18 on 3 systems and this issue is happening on all 3. My versions are on 18.0.94 but I have tried to go back to 90 and 78 and it still seemed to occur.  All 3 systems point to music on a shared drive on my server, Z:\My Music, as well as Z:\My Pictures and Y:\ for videos and T:\for tv.

I have MC running on each in server mode so I can access each one from each other, and from library clients or mobile devices. Within the last 3 weeks something happened where mc just locks up and won't respond.

Today as an example, I had MC running and was looking at it. I then minimized it. I connected my iPhone so I could sync some pictures using Microsoft wizard. Once that was done, I disconnected that and connected another iphone and imported more pictures.

Once that was done I went to maximize MC so I could tag these pictures and it does not respond.  An icon is in the task bar and if I hover on it, the small screen shows the image of the JR screen but I cannot get it to come active. I also hover on the task bar icon and try to click the "X" in the upper part of the window but it does nothing. I go to the system tray and the server icon is there, but clicking it does nothing so no option to open JR Window that way.

If I go to my desktop and try to open JRiver again, It tells me "media center 18 is running, but there may be a problem.".

My only way to get this to come back is to run task manager and kill the media center 18 process.

I am running Microsoft Security Essentials on 1 of these machines, but not on all 3.  This same machine with MSE also had Windows firewall running but I disabled that as well and still have this issue.

Now, I am not sure this will be the same issue or a separate one, but on my "kitchen" computer this same thing occurs as mentioned above.  To add to this, when MC is running in full screen it seems to lock up. For example, I selected Genre/Christmas and played as shuffled. It started playing and about 4 songs into it, it stopped.  I went to see what it was doing the screen looked ok, but no music was playing. When I tried to click anywhere in the program, the icon changed to the swirling circle and I could not click anything in MC.  Eventually it gave a white screen over the program and said it has stopped responding. This "Kitchen" computer did not have MSE or firewall on it. So I put MSE on it to scan it and see if that was an issue. Nothing found and this symptom occurred again.

So on the kitchen computer I fired up JRMC17 and used that to play my tunes. That worked ok.

It is so random but frequent that it is annoying and unusable.  I am not sure what would have changed other than I recently changed my dns pointers to Open DNS.

Here is some of my computer info:

Just happened again after I walked away for a bit and tried to use the program. I had logging on and am uploading that now.

Thanks for the log.

It sticks here:
7098701: 7104: Import: CSynchronizeDatabase::ImportAutoImport: Start
7098701: 7104: Import: CSynchronizeDatabase::ImportAutoImport: Stopping current auto-import processing

As a test, please turn off auto-import (Options > Library & Folders).  Does that fix the issue?

If it does, we'll dig into what might be causing it.

Cool.  I turned auto import off and turned logging back on, just in case.

I'll let you know how it goes.

Thanks!

It appears the import was the issue. I have run for several days now without issue.  What would you like me to try next?

We have to figure out why it's getting stuck.

What happens if you run an auto-import manually from Tools > Import?  Does that complete?

I had 4 folders that imports was looking at: Z:\My Music, Z:\My Pictures, T:\ (TV Recordings) and Y:\movies.

I removed all but Z:\My Music and started logging and told it to run import. I left it over night to run. It was not locked up in the AM but Analyzing Audio was stuck at 1 of 1474 all night.

Clicked stop and it would not go away. I left it and saved attached log file.

I will remove My Music from the import and try My Pictures now just to see if it works..

Audio Analyzer never went away. I closed MC down and when I stopped the server in task bar it said it was still running import.  I aborted it. However mediaCenter18.exe was still running in my processes.  So no server or program open, yet it was still running.  I Ended that process. Opened MC. Setup Auto Import and kept it only looking in Z:\My Muisic, but removed the Analyze Audio check mark. All items processed and the "Importing Media" screen went away.

I reset the log file then added all other folders that were originally in import back in, and kept ANalyze Audio non-selected. Import ran fine and found 3 new files.

I'll leave it like this and leave logging on and see if it locks up like before.

Thanks,
Pete

Do I just leave audio analyzer off then? Or should I have be making a test library with part of my library and see if/where the analyzer fails on a file?
