Author Topic: Can anyone help with "Zones" - new HTPC in an MC Client/Media Server layout?  (Read 781 times)

I am finally ramping up my first HTPC - and I think I have the concept of "zones" and the new ZoneSwitch feature in v18 under control. Due to the content being considered for this PC - I am looking at creating two zones so I can play movies to a specific HDMI output of the PC and 2 channel music to the SPDIF (Optical) to send to a DAC and then onto my 2 channel amp.

What I am not clear on are these two areas:

1. When creating "zones" - is the default "Player" zone considered part of my plan? I assume the "Player" zone under Playing Now is the default zone using the default audio settings etc. Should I monkey with that one? Or leave it alone and create two new standalone zones called Video Playback and Music Playback - each containing their own unique settings?

2. My HTPC will be a "client" just like all other PC's in the house - in that it connects to our "Media Server" PC (My workstation running MC Server). With respect to creating zones - I assume that these two new Zones must be created on the actual HTPC instance of MC - rather than the Media Server PC (My workstation)...correct?

Appreciate any tips that you can share.

Cheers,

It's just another zone.  Rename it to something that makes sense to you and use it.
