JRiver progress bar problems with UpMpdCli
« on: June 02, 2016, 04:04:39 am »

Hi, I have problems using JRiver DNLA server / control point  with UpMpdCli renderer. When starting playback progress bar always gets stuck in the beginning of each track, resetting itself to the beginning. After 10 or more seconds it is synchronized properly but gets broken again on next track. Such behaviour is reported in this forum multiple times with various renderers.
I tested  UpMpdCli instance with Dmra analyzer but found no issues - report is attached.  Tried to disable transport events - same behaviour. I also tried MinimServer and Lumin control point and found no issues at all - Lumin shows correct progress info.
Please help to solve this issue with MC. I have Mac and Linux  versions - they both have same issue.

Did you try converting the media?   It's set on the server under Media Network.

Actually I am not sure that this is really a "bug" or just simply a "feature" of the way that MC works..

I think that (bob please correct me if I am wrong) when MC issues the Play command, it assumes that the playing will start immediately, and so it locally starts updating its progress bar on the assumption that the renderer has indeed started. I think the idea is to give the user an instant feedback that something is going on. But many renderers take a few seconds to really get going, and perhaps a few seconds longer before they send their first progress notification. So when that first progress notification actually arrives, then MC has to update its progress bar from the assumed position to the real position. Which causes the backwards jump that you see.

Ok, but why Minimserver / Lumin  has no such issue? I think that they use same renderer events for progress reporting.

^

I am guessing that they do not use any local assumptions in setting the progress bar position, but rely only on what they get from the renderer..

ok, so what to do now? UpMpdCli became quite popular, it is installed on Sonore devices and it is sad to see that JRiver has bugs with it. Is there any way to convince JRiver team to fix them?

As I said before, I think it is not a bug, but a feature..
