web image search?
« on: January 30, 2013, 01:26:04 pm »

until the other day, to find the relevant album art image through google, this worked fine:

http:////images.google.com//images?q=Hexify([Artist]) Hexify([Album])

can anyone tell me how to change it to make it work again?

sorry I am not technically savvy!

The default is this and it works for me:
Code: [Select]

Images

0

http://images.google.com

http:////images.google.com//images?q=Hexify([Search])&tbs=isch:1,isz:l

[Media Type]=[Audio]

You can copy that to the clipboard and use the 'Past Link Information From Clipboard' button on the Manage Links dialog to set a link to it.

That URL looked familiar, so I searched your posts. Lo and behold, I see I gave you that URL.

Can you explain what isn't working?

@Matt - the generic search doesn't work too well for many compilation albums. Searching with Artist included narrows and betters the results often. I use both the default Images link (yours) as well as the one I posted for the OP.

thanks to you both. Still not quite working. The link info I had been using (http:////images.google.com//images?q=Hexify([Artist]) Hexify([Album]), which was NOT the default) was fine until a few days ago: I think google must have changed something at their end, since the interface at the image results page is rather different now, and I can't simply click on an image at let jriver take over and download the image.

The default search doesn't suit my needs, since it doesn't include album title info, hence doesn't get me to the right images at google (yes, I had queried here about this some time ago, and the answer I got was great...until now, alas). Sorry for being a pain...hope you can help though. dan

It looks like google changed their interface again. Both your URL or Matt's (the default) bring up the same new interface.

This is what I use and it's still working today.
Code: [Select]
http:////images.google.com//images?q=Hexify([Album Artist (auto)] [Album])&hl=en&safe=off&biw=1374&bih=739&tbs=isch:1,imgo:1,isz:lt,islt:qsvga&source=lnt
Click on the one that I want.
Click on "view original image" button.
Right-click on image, copy, paste into MC.

You can copy/paste the image or the URL. That's not the issue being reported. MC has a friendly way to do this with google images, but that isn't working now.

btw and offtopic. Be sure to copy the URL instead of the image to get best quality.

Yeah, I'm having the same issue, would be great if functionality could be restored in a future update.

If you go to the bottom of the Google Images page there is a link "switch to basic version", which goes back to a version that MC works with. The only difference I could see in the URL and mine was:

&sout=1&biw=1181&bih=917

So I added that to the end of my search string and now my MC link goes to this basic page for searching, and I can once again grab images...

Thanks, works great! Although copying your string didn't work for me for a reason unknown, plus I got different numbers when I switched to the basic version in my browser (&sout=1&biw=853&bih=435).

Google Seems to have changes things again. This works for me now:

http:////images.google.com//images?q=Hexify([Artist]) Hexify([Album])&authuser=0&site=imghp&tbm=isch&sout=1&biw=1309&bih=704
