Problems when using MC18 just as DLNA controller
« on: February 24, 2013, 07:05:00 pm »

Hi,

I'm new to Media Center and DLNA. I have a Buffalo 2TB LinkStation LS-WVL with DLNA server. I have all of my media files on there. When I accessed these files only with my Sony Blu-ray player, I had no problems. The server ran fine.

I wanted to use MC solely as a controller to manage all of my files. I connected to the LinkStation library, saw all of my audio files. However, when I tried playing them on the Sony, I encountered errors after the first one or two plays.

When I went back to the Sony, it could not access the Buffalo server. Somehow, MC was causing the DLNA server to stop working. Restarting the DLNA server worked, but then the same problem keeps on re-occurring when I use MC.

The workaround was to import the remote files on the Buffalo into the Main Library by pointing it to folders on my L: drive, which is where the Buffalo is mounted. However, in order to do this, I had to make my computer a DLNA server, which I had wanted to avoid.

My question: why is MC crashing the DLNA server on the Buffalo? I have almost 10,000 music files, several thousand photos. Is there a known issue? I am running Windows 7. Thanks.

MC couldn't crash the server.  Only the server could do that.
