I can't seem to find the thread about a sort of related problem... so..a new thread.

My library server and client were working well as was gizmo accessing the library and controlling everything.

Then I saved the library and then re imported the library to a different machine running MC18 and I also reloaded the settings. ...  I now have three machines with the same main library.

This seems to have broken the Library feature.  All machines had the same ID  TMVmtd.  I did a reset on the actual server and got a new id and still can't connect.

If I used either of the two "server machines' and use them as a client to my laptop.  everything works as planned.

In the thread that I can't find... the fellow had a similar problem with DLNA devices and advised me to delete or reset three items with regedit...   Still no luck.

Matt noted in some thread (can't find that either) that restoring a library on a different machines would screw up something about the network server ...  but I did not understand the answer or what to do.

Help!

Why are you using 3 identical libraries on 3 machines?  Why not let one library serve the other 2?

Access problems are usually firewalls or routing?  You could read the "Network Access" topic on the wiki.

If you are using an Access Key to connect, it would need to be unique on each server.  You can generate a new one in the Media Network section of the settings.  But to connect from outside your LAN, it would require using different ports for each one, and configuring your router to route requests on each port to the right IP address.

If you could better describe the problem, it might be easier to suggest a solution.

I have a similar situation!  Three powerful PCs, it's a waste to have two running plus a NAS when all you want to do is play music on one.

Why do I do I save the library and settings and then restore on a seperate machine?

I have two machines in two locations.   I sneaker net between the two with a USB Hard disk and synch the internal hard disk of music and movies with synchtoy.   I do all of the tagging on one machine and so I want to synch the database...     The restore the library seemed to work and just importing the new files on the second machine would not keep all of the tags that were not in the flac file.

Then I use a laptop or an android tablet to control the specific server in either location.  (My music collection is too large to keep on all machines and they are playing through different analog setups  so I do want to use the server - client set up for convenience and control)

This seemed to be working.... several months.   In one location... one server with a client laptop or a gizmo tablet.
In doing this... I noticed that the Server ID TMVxxx remained the same... but the name of the server on my client lap top never matched up to the server that i was using at that moment.... ... Oh well... it was one of those mysteries.

I don't open any ports to the outside internet in either location.

Then... I decided to reorganize my video File structure that was put together before the sidecar system was built....  I got another laptop
and resored the same library to it.... so that I could play around a bit.  That is when my ability to run the server from my laptop died.
I had One desktop machine that is the actual server with the Hard disks of music attached.  the client lap top and gizmo tablet and a old laptop with the restored library from the server.   So... even tho it is off... I have killed my ability to connect to the servr with the client laptop or gizmo.

Now... I can go the other way... the desktop server can play as a client to my laptop library... so I can't see that I have a firewall issue since nothing changes.

What should I reset on all the libraris to start over?

So..  from what i now understand... the server could be named server rather then the TMVxxx or whatever JRiver assigns.

When I try to contact the server.... it fails after one try.  When I try again... it takes 4 or 5 tries at contacting the server and fails.

I tried rolling back to an old library version and just restored the settings.   However, I still can't access the server from the client.
I tried rolling back completely to an old library on the server and still my client can't connect to the server.

OK... I turned off the Macaffe fire wall and presto... I can make all of my client connectons to the server. So... now I need to figure out what it takes to get jriver info through the firewall.
God knows what changed?
