I used to see 1 album for a set of multi-disc albums in iTunes.
Now I see 2. Newbie here. ANy help appreciated.

Make them have the same [Album] tag.  Set the [Disc #] tag appropriately (if it isn't already) to separate Disc #1 from Disc #2.  When viewed in the Panes view, you want them to look like this:

The album that has 2 CDs has the same Album name already for both CDs. They are in different directories and I see 2 albums instead of 1.

FYI: multi-disc albums can be split into separate directories, one per disc, as in:

Pink Floyd - CD1
  - Tracks for CD1
Pink Floyd - CD2
  - Tracks for CD2

MC doesn't care what folders they're in on disk, unless you're browsing via a Filesystem-based view.

All MC cares about is the file tags.  What view are you looking at them in?

Files in the same folder doesn't matter, but ALBUM ARTIST does. And, as Kami said, the Album name has to be IDENTICAL on all files (so not include "Disc 1" or any such).

Also, once you have fixed any tagging errors, in some cases, the Albums view does not correct itself until you have gone to another view and come back.

Thanks all,

Since almost day 1, I use MC to place my files in a "[Artist]/[Album]/[Artist]-[Album]-[disc#]-[track#]-[Name].flac" folder arrangement, I thought the multi-folder was not supported.
Doing things by habit and also being a bit old fashioned!

While you have solved the problem in MC18, I always prefer to use

[disc #][track #] - [title]

with multi-disc albums, and keep them in the same folder. I omit the [disc #] tag if it is not a multi-disc album.

This means that programs which are not paying attention to things like tags will not try to play Disc 1 Track 1, then Disc 2 Track 1, Disc 1 Track 2 and so on, as the files are 101, 102, 201, 202 etc.


I do wish that MC18 accepted disc tags in the "1/2" "2/2" format, rather than simply "1" and "2" as some programs only treat them as a multi-disc album in that format.

The whole point of MediaCenter is to take advantage of not having that limitation.

So, in tagging multi-disc albums, I always put them in order in a tagging window, and then use:

  Fill Track Numbers From List Order

and dispense with the disc numbers altogether.

It makes everything much easier.

Exactly what I do.  I fill the [Disc #] field too, but I typically just number the tracks straight through.  In fact, when I posted that Ummagumma screenshot above, I had to go in and temporarily renumber them first (to avoid confusion).
