I am in the process of migrating about 20,000 photos from a LAMP-based system to MC18.  I have managed to get the photos imported with their comments, descriptions, date-taken and people tags.  I had photos in multiple albums and had albums within albums in the old system (an album hierarchy).   It appears the equivalent method in MC would be to use playlist groups and playlists.

I am running a Library Server on a headless PC, but can access it via RDP.  However, I wish to do all of my interaction using a MC client on a client PC.  The pictures are accessible to the client PC via a file share.  (You can see the path in the first screenshot.)

As a test, I added three images to a playlist.  One feature that I used with the old system was to export an album, group of albums or group of pictures.  I can't quite figure out how to do it with MC on the client.

When I look under the "Send To" context menu, I do not see anything that appears to be a way to export the images to a local folder, zip file, or any other similar method.  "Drives & Devices" show my burner, but not the local file system.  I can't figure out how to shoehorn any of the Email & Web or Gallery options to get it to work.

If I go to Rename, Move & Copy Files from the context menu, I start to get closer.  But there are issues. First, rather than access the file via \\srv01\... as shown in the first screenshot, it is using m01p://...GetFile?... and all of the names are GetFile.  I get the fact this is because I am accessing the Library Server from a client.  A simple tweak to the Filename field on the dialog box fixes appears to fix this (see the second screenshot.)
However, when I click "OK", MC makes the destination folder (in this case, the folder "pics"), but does not copy any pictures.

When I do the same function on the library server PC, it works just fine (see the third screenshot.)

Does anyone have any thoughts why this is not working from the client, but it works fine from the library server?  Additionally, does anyone have any ideas for a simpler way to export multiple images?  Using Rename, Move & Copy to do so seems inherently insecure as someone could accidently move images when they intended to copy them.

  • Your life is short. Give me your money.

Define a Handheld as a Folder on the client.  Then, send your images to the HH.  Set any conversion options you want - by default, images are not converted.
