Install Key won't download
« on: March 20, 2013, 01:44:50 pm »

I'm trying to restore/activate MC18, but the Install Key (.mjr file) JRiver emails me as an attachment will not download. When I click on the attachment, I'm given the option to open or save the file. When I choose "open" it comes up in a window as a text file. When I choose "save" it puts an icon on my desktop named "Media Center18-194596_mjr.6rkk5o5", but the file contains 0 bytes.

I'm running Explorer and Windows 7. I have all my security features turned "OFF".

Any suggestions?

Use IE as your browser.  Make sure MC is installed.  More here:

Jim;

You are not addressing my problem. Please read my previous post once more.

I have done the restore procedure so many times times I am down to my last remaining restore. The problem is I can't get a copy of the install key. When I click on the attachment from JRiver in my "mail" program, it tries and fails to download the .mjr file.

It sounds like your emailer is corrupting the attachment.  Use the browser method instead and download the .mjr file that way.

Did you read the linked topic carefully?

Is the right version of MC installed?  If your license is for MC18, you must have MC18 installed.

If you have a Mac version, there is no license required.

The Install key has an extension of .mjr but something on your PC is changing the name.

Don't worry about restores.  We can reset them.

Do not post your license here.

FYI: the .##### suffix typically indicates a partial mime attachment download.

Correct.

It looks to me like your download isn't completing, which is odd because the MJR files are tiny.  Check your email, as it will also have been emailed to you as an attachment.

This can happen when email-scanning A/V intercepts the attachment for scanning, but doesn't get the last couple of bytes, so leaves the file in an incomplete state.  Outlook and Norton were notorious for these problems.

The 0-byte incomplete download file that's saved on my desktop is named "Mexxxxxxxxxxxxxx.n??iaev".

MrC, you mentioned the "browser method". How do I do that?

You could probably rename the extension as .mjr and it will work when you click on it in Explorer.

Go here:

    https://rover.jriver.com/cgi-bin/restore.cgi

enter your license, and save the file to your desktop.  You might do what JimH suggests if you've already done this.  Rename the extension back when the download is done.
