This is probably staring me in the face… but, I can’t find it!

The default behaviour in MC when playing a single album seems to be to play each track in order and then rinse and repeat. Is there a setting that allows MC to play the album and then stop playback at the end of the last track?

I use MC in ‘Theatre View’ and control with a remote only.

Well, I don't know anything yet about Theater View... so if you change to Standard View, in the Upper Right area but under the Player display, there are three groups of wavy lines.  The leftmost of the three groups, controls Repeat, so you want to click it until it says "Repeat Off". The setting should be retained until you change it again.

Other reasons for repeating an album are:

* You are playing an SACD, and it has a stereo version and a multichannel version.

* You have more than one version of the album, e.g. a FLAC version and an MP3 version.

In both cases, you need to apply a "rule" to customize the view to exclude the one you don't want to play.  I don't know how to do that in Theater View, though, but I think the Repeat setting applies regardless of view...

The default for the repeat setting is a source of debate inside the company.

Personally I don't want music to stop unless I press stop.  That's how car stereos work, and I like it.

My Honda's CD-changer never repeats.  It does start the next CD in the changer, though.

(Since changing the default is so easy, it's a non-issue.)
