Deleted Files
« on: March 25, 2013, 01:51:24 pm »

Hi all, I deleted a lot of music files with the windows explorer. Its clear that MC dont know that. So I have now a lot of database listings which one showes into the Nirvana.
Has somebody any idea to get rid of this listings without creating a new database? A Samrtlist which ones filters only them for e.g.?
Thanks in andvance

All I can tell you for now, is that there is a way, and that someone else will be able to tell you how. I don't know how, but do remember there being a short, easy expression. Hold on....

If I may....

I am aware of 2 major ways to help clean up missing links in your database resulting from files you deleted outside MC.

1 - You can create a smartlist that will list your missing files:
- View->Add View->Add Smartlist... or F9
- add the following Custom rule: [=IsMissing([Filename])]=1 (see screenshot)
- Name your smartlist with some sensible name
Now you can select the missing files and delete them from MC database by hitting the delete key

2 - A more interesting and automatic way of cleaning your DB is to setup auto-import folders
- Tools->Options->Library & Folders->Configure Auto-Import
- Add your current folder(s) as auto-import folder
- Tick the following options in the Tasks section: "Update for external changes" and "Fix broken links (protect files on missing drives)"
This way, your database will be automatically cleaned up and will follow any modification done outside of MC

Hope it helps,

cheers,

C.

FYI, for me - this:

[=IsMissing([Filename])]=1

lists all the files that are in CUE or SACD ISO files... plus all the web URLs.

I added a rule

Filename does not contain ;

and it took care of the CUE and SACD ISO files.

This is critical! Otherwise, if one has whole albums in one ape or flac, the files will appear as missing.

Is there a workaround or precice desciption how smartlists are made?
How can I control if the MC database matches with all my files?
Thanks in advance
