Running MC18, though the same problem occurred with MC17. Whenever I have the program open, even if not actively playing anything, the power off options for Windows7x64 won't work. I have the monitors set to turn off after 15 minutes, and power off everything else after 30 minutes, but they don't happen whenever MC18 is open. Again, this happens even when nothing is playing in MC18; it's just open as a program running on the desktop. Is this normal behavior for MC? Is there some option setting that would allow the system to shutdown? Thanks for your help.

Options > Audio > Settings > Disable display from turning off

If this is enabled, it disables the monitor sleep when MC is running.  This is necessary when you are using HDMI audio or else the display will go to sleep, which turns off the audio output, and creates havoc.  If you aren't using HDMI audio, then you can turn this off.

I appreciate your response. However, that box is already unchecked, and the computer still won't turn off the hard drives and go to sleep. I now realize I was wrong in my first post. The monitors will turn off, but the problem is that the computer won't shut down. Sorry for the mistake, and I hope someone will have a solution, or tell me that this is normal behavior for my setup.

I confirm this behaviour. You are not alone. Automatic sleep (after a period of time) does not work while MC18 is open (at least for me). I don't know if it's normal or not.
Forced sleep (pressing the sleep button) does work. My guess is you have media server also activated (DLNA server). It has been discussed here:

I always have the MC server running and my machine auto-sleeps fine (unless it's recording or serving, which is good).

So I don't think there's a universal problem here.

You might post more details if you're having a specific problem.

I have edited my previous post. It was not correct to make such a general statement. (sorry)
I tested on a different computer (laptop with Win 7) with MC open and set sleep after 1 min. and sleep worked without problems. It must be something with my main computer then (desktop + win 7). I will test some more when I will get to it and report back.
