Following up from an earlier post...

My ReadyNas serves files both via a fully qualified filename (e.g. \\ReadyNas\Media\Audio\Song#1

and also via an HTTP address for access from outside the home. So, every song appears twice in my Library.

I'd like to find a way to exclude all files that start with the string "http://" so the songs only appear once.

Does anyone know how to do this?

Are both the hostname and IP-based name versions of the folders listed in Tools > Import... > Configure Auto-Import?  If so, you'll want to remove one, and just use one form or the other.

Otherwise, how did the IP-based values get imported into MC?

I've attached a screenshot of my Config Auto Import screen. Only the \\ReadyNas bit is there. Yet when I add new media, I get duplicate entries of the form:
http://<IP addr>/MediaItems/somenumber.fileext

I've also attached another screenshot that shows 2 locations for the library (one includes the HTTP), but I have no idea how that got there or how to remove it. And finally, a screenshot showing the http listing..

Make sure none of your client machines are watching (importing) folders.

I only have one instance of MC 18 running, so that would be my only client machine.

I add media first by ripping or downloading to my PC. Then I use Explorer to copy from my local hard drive to my mapped NAS drive. I do not use MC 18 to do the move.

The ReadyNAS is configured as a DLNA *and* HTTP server. That certainly has some effect but I'm not sure how/why I'm getting the HTTP "duplicate" entries.

Those entries probably come from the NAS' DLNA server.  Are you browsing or using it as a zone under MC's Playing Now.

I don't thing the standard import methods for MC will pull in such values, and think they'd only appear if you were using MC as a DLNA controller for the NAS' DLNA server (via Playing Now > <NAS zone>).  Or you built up a library from that Zone.

...and sadly, this is where I've gotten in over my head (fairly new to MC). It's not clear to me what the difference between browsing and a zone is, or how it appears. (And I'm not at my PC now to send a screen shot). I set up the NAS as a Library and use MC to choose the media I want to play and direct it to the player (sometimes the local MC player and sometimes a SONOS unit or a Naim amplifier in the living room).

My library does not show up as a zone under playing now...if that is what you mean. Only my "output devices" show up: MC player, a Naim amp, and some SONOS units...and these all work fine, and some video equipment that I use to send video to the TV.

So, in MC, my NAS library is selected and I navigate the tree on the left hand side to choose one of the canned views to find an album or artist, then move to the right side display (panel?) to choose an album or song to play and play it.

Apologies for being the "ignorant user" here...there is a lot to MC and I'm still in the early part of the learning curve.

The selected library is shown in green.  That tells us you've selected its DLNA server and have asked MC to load its contents into a separate library.  And you're using that library.

Suggestion.  Don't do that.  Instead, use MC's main library, that you've already configured.  MC has already read the files via Windows file paths, and will play the media directly instead of going through the NAS' DLNA server.  As far as MC goes, it doesn't need the DLNA services from the NAS.

Thanks. Just to be clear. When I configure the Main Library, I'll point to the \\ReadyNAS path. Correct? Or do I need to use a mapped drive letter?

Will all the tagging move to the Main Library?

Originally, the Main library pointed to my local hard drive. Since then, I've migrated over to the ReadyNAS. Not sure if that matters.

And finally, for my own deeper understanding: How do you tell it is using the DLNA server and not just the Windows path?

Consistently use either a UNC path or mapped drive letter.  If you will be only on Windows systems, a drive letter is fine.  Otherwise, use UNC.

Hover your mouse over the library and see the tooltip.
