CPU & Video Requirements for MC18
« on: April 12, 2013, 12:05:29 pm »

Hello,

Just purchased MC 18 after lengthy demo.

Tried running 1080p on the following:

1) Laptop - Core i3 with Integrated Intel HD Graphics +8Gb Ram  - freezes & pixelates, does not work

2) Laptop - Core i5 with 1GB dedicated Invidia card + 8Gb RAM - works fine.

Does this mean minimum requirements will be Core i5 + 1Gb dedicated card + 8 Gb RAM ?

Thanks.

An i3 should be sufficient for HD I would think..  what are your settings on the i3?     Are you trying to use hardware acceleration?    Which model  Intel HD is it?   is it HD3000  (the newest) ?

Graphics is Intel GMA 4500M HD on Core i3 2.4 with 8Gb RAM.

Just standard setup in Win 7 Pro, no overclock, no hardware acceleration.

Can I make this work ?

Thanks.

In Tools->Options->Video, what are the top two settings ?

(BTW, 2GB of RAM should be more than enough)

in Video options I would try.

Mode: Red October Standard
and below that enable (tick box)  "Hardware accelerate video decoding when possible".

If it massively improves after that, you could try switching to Red October HQ,  otherwise Red October Standard should be enough.

That setup is not sufficient for Red October "HQ" and most of the improvements are in regards to scaling up, so won't help as much on 1080p anyway.

So, I definitely recommend the same two settings suggested by Neco.

Graphics is Intel GMA 4500M HD on Core i3 2.4 with 8Gb RAM.

That's a neat trick.

The Intel GMA 4500MHD was a feature of the Intel Mobile GM45 chipset, which was available for Core 2 generation CPUs.  With the first Core i3/5/7 series chips, of course, one of the major developments for Nehalem and later CPUs was that the GPU was integrated into the CPU package.  The oldest Core i3 mobile chip shipped with a GPU branded simply "Intel HD Graphics".  Later CPUs had different branding for the GPU portion, but the entire "GMA" name was left behind with the Core 2 series parts, and certainly the 4500MHD in particular.

Me thinks your info is off.

I run mine using Intel Atom 330, Red October Standard and it has no problems.

Set to Red October Standard with Hardware acceleration

Much Appreciated

AFTERTHOUGHTS:

This is a highly complex and sophisticated software with a rather steep learning curve.

But the rewards are unmatched, audio and video processing are top rate.

Got RO Standard to work on both laptops.

Tried ROHQ on laptop below and had stuttering

2) Dell XPS 15 - Core i5 with 1GB dedicated Invidia card + 8Gb DDR3 RAM.

What additional settings need to be changed ?

Will this PC configuration not cut it for ROHQ ?

Thanks Much.

You probably aren't going to see a difference using ROHQ on a laptop screen anyways. Just leave it be. Depending on the mobile dedicated graphic card, you are probably right at the threshold for ROHQ.

Your laptop uses Nvidia Optimus. Make sure MC18 is enabled in Nvidia Control Panel (Manage 3D settings -> Program Settings). Add the MC18 executable and select Nvidia as the preferred graphics processor for it. Also enable HW acceleration in MC video settings.
Those specs are more than enough for ROHQ.

If you notice sometimes stuttering and dropped frames (hit CTRL-J for MadVR stats) and deinterlacing is on for progressive material, either deactivate deinterlacing in madvr settings or set it to "when in doubt deactivate deinterlacing".

Forgot to mention I normally stream to 58" Plasma Display.

I was running Lincoln at 1080p and switching between ROS and ROHQ and encountered the stuttering/freezing under ROHQ.

I will try your settings.

Thanks Much.
