just realized that MC imports the thumb.db file and found this old topic.
First - who does not want to see thumbs? That is what happens if you
follow that link.
Take a look at my attachment. Its my movie test folder and that is what i
want to see (and the reason i use Shark007s Pack).
Also if you have a folder with pictures from your last holiday and you are
looking for a special picture you want thumbs.
And the topic is not so easy like in that article in that link.
So my post is for other who search here for thumbs.db.
XP, Vista, Win7/8 handle the thumbs.db different.
Since Vista you don't have a thumbs.db in every folder.
It is stored in %userprofile%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Explorer
But if you access network shares with write permissions then Vista/Win7
store a thumbs.db file in that remote directory. So if you have more then one
PC accessing this share, you need do enable
"Turn off the caching of thumbnails in hidden thumbs.db files"
in group policys on all of them.
This policy setting allows you to configure File Explorer to cache
thumbnails of items residing in network folders in hidden thumbs.db files.
If you enable this policy setting, File Explorer does not create, read from,
or write to thumbs.db files.
If you disable or do not configure this policy setting, File Explorer creates,
reads from, and writes to thumbs.db files.
I'm not sure about Win8 when it comes to network folders.
The policy is still there and i need to first clean up my server
from the thumbs.db files and change the policy on all PCs in the house.
