Accessing imported files

I've been using MC for years and have never had this problem.    I have imported a folder of new mp3s yet they are not showing up in my library.   When I search for the files in MC I am directed to the location of the files under drives and devices.      I click on the artist and nothing shows.  When I click on the album subfolder, the songs show up but the artist field is blank.

Really flummoxed here.

Click on Audio in the tree before you search.

I do that. I search for the artist and I am brought to a folder of "unknown artist" with the artists songs listed.
